Going vegetarian may help cure acid reflux

Acid reflux or heartburn is a common problem and even more so for pregnant women. The burning sensation feels uncomfortable, specifically if you can taste the acids at the back of your throat. Sometimes this can really be troubling if you can’t breathe and the burning sensation is painful. So what can you do? Pop another antacid and call it a night? Well, if you are careful, then a good diet is enough to keep heartburn at bay. Going vegetarian may help cure acid reflux.

In this day and age, it can very hard to go vegan or even vegetarian. There is a difference between the two lifestyle choices. A new study explained how you can avoid heartburn by following a plant-based diet for at least 90% of the time.

A study by JAMA Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery studied patients who took medication to reduce gastric acid and also followed a Mediterranean diet. The study focused on a more serious version of the heartburn known as the laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR).

This is a condition when the stomach acids come back into the throat. This doesn't give you heartburn. Symptoms are a chronic sore throat, coughing all the time or even the feeling of a lump in the throat.

Over 180 patients were observed, and it was found that the participant patients with more plant-based diet had fewer reflux symptoms.

The dietary approach to preventing heartburn or acid reflux is beneficial for many reasons. This is great news considering how less medication for every small uncomfortable feeling is better for you.
